Poker Party Themes

Many casino’s have incredible themes, such as city specific, exotic animal, mid-evil times, ancient Greece, ancient Arabia and a wide variety of others. These themes entice the imagination, entertain the masses, and draw in the crowds, night after night. So if themes work so well for the major casino establishments, why not have a themed casino night yourself? If you love poker, then this is a great way to spice up your poker night, or events. Alright, so you know this poker party theme idea would be fantastic, but you are not sure what theme would fit your plans. You know you don’t need something to elaborate, such as the attempt to design a major metropolitan city into one room, but something exciting would be fantastic. Here is a simple and quick list to get your imagination running.

007 James Bond Theme – For this one, you and your friends would likely come to the event black tie, with hidden gadgets throughout the room. Adding to the flair, you may want to have your private poker dealers wear a similar custom to a bond supporting character. Make sure each table has an unannounced bountied player.

Ancient Greece – It is always fun to get together with friends, wear togas, drink beer, and have your poker dealer pushing a chariot across your table instead of the button.

Hawaiian Luau – Warm summer evenings are heated further by the fun environment. The poker dealers could be dressed in grass skirts, with lay accents everywhere, and greeters to offer all of your poker players their own lay upon entering the event. Simple, popular Tiki style torches can be used to dress up the event a bit just be sure that they are not the kind that requires fire. Most places wouldn’t see a good theme as reason for the sprinkler system being activated.

Star Trek/Star Wars – Both the science fiction brands have major followings, so having your poker dealers dress in attire for either would generate an enjoyable event. You could offer some kind of incentive to your poker players to also come dressed for the occasion. A trip to your local party store will yield some inexpensive decorations that fit. Don’t leave out the aliens.

Sports for the season – (baseball, football, soccer, hockey etc) Everyone has a favorite team for nearly all popular forms of sports. Picking up team gear, and posters would be all you’d need. Snacks for this kind of poker theme party would also be inexpensive, pop corn and potato chips would likely be all you would need. The poker dealers should come with a jersey that matches the sports theme you chose.

Comic Book Superhero – As kids many of us grew up wanting to be Superman/girl, Batman/girl, Catwoman, or any countless others. This is a fun way to bring attention to your poker night, and having your poker dealers each pick a character costume or t-shirt would only bring out the kids in your poker pals. Decorations and snacks for a party like this would be both easy to come by and inexpensive on the planning budget. • Decade Specific Theme – Pick 10 years of fun and entertainment, for me that would be the 1920’s when people were first excited about life and careless enough to flaunt it, at least in the United States, and draw your players around that. Think Dick Tracy and Bonny and Clyde. Decorate based on items of that era and suggest appropriate attire for your poker dealers.

Charity Theme – This would depend on your choice, and how you would want to decorate. Some might opt for the simple flyer and pin or buttons for players and dealers. Other people might want to find a way to play with the charity displayed forth right. How you proceed would depend on the charity, and you.

People in History – Now this poker theme could get interesting. If you selected a specific genre, you could have your poker pals dress as a person in that genre. For example, if you selected Poker Players in History, some of your dealers would select a known poker player in history, such as Wayet Earp or Doc Holiday. Then you would offer a bounty on those who do not dress as a historical character.

April Fool’s Day – This is only the most entertaining possibility and one of the most challenging poker themes for a home poker party. Imagine Texas Hold’em when the rules run backwards. Instead of wanting the highest possible hand, the poker players want the lowest. Instead of the button moving in the anticipated direction, it moves at random. The poker dealers would be extra busy reminding the players of the April Fool’s Day game rules, but the entertainment factor for all would be there.

As you can see, poker party themes can be fun, varied, and entertaining even for the rail birds. Keep your games interesting and exciting with any of the above themes and idea’s, or create some of your own. You’ll see why it works for the big casinos, while it is working for you.
