How to Pick a Poker Dealer

You are at the interview phase, and you need to find the right poker dealer for your poker or casino hire night. Every week you and the neighbors get together and play a few hands, so you want to be sure you select just the right dealer. If everything works out you will have a regular dealer every week, and no need for the host to sacrifice the game to play dealer and rule enforcer. Not to mention, if they are hot you will have a nice face to look at every week, instead of the same blokes you’ve been playing with. You have your list of local poker dealers; beside it you have room for notes from the conversations and your budget. Now before you make the first call, you need to plan what you are going to ask. Hopefully you will have discussed with your poker night buddies what is important to them. Keep those thoughts in mind, and create a list of qualities you would like. Four or five qualities in the personality that you think will fit into your group should be enough. Now what is crucial with any job are the standard questions:

1) Experience level

2) How long

3) Where

4) Favorite

5) Least favorite

6) Average time frame for average cost

7) Do they bring their own supplies – button, deck, timer ect.

After those main points it is a matter of conversational fluidity. Are you able to discuss options with them? Do they respond as you would like your dealer at the table to respond? How many different games can they deal, that you and your friends enjoy playing? Be sure to use the notes section as you go, marking important information, budgeting numbers and your feel of the person. Depending on how many options you have in your area, you may want to also ask for a face to face with the person or people who top your list. Your choices with a face to face interview vary. You could attempt to conduct a formal interview, much like a manager would before he or she hires for a standard brick and mortar position.

Your other choice, and likely the best option for a poker dealer, is to have a trial run. Rotate your top choices for poker dealer through your game over the coming weeks. This will enable all of the players to have input at the end of each poker night. As you can see this is going to be a process, but it is a very easy one. As long as you start out with the goal of finding a fun casino person to hire, you are going to get the right dealer for your poker night.
